Greatest smoothies: The Belly Soother with probiotics

Still overcoming the effects of all that rich food over the festive break? Make this Belly Soother, developed for Fitness First magazine by nutritionist Kathleen Alleaume. It’s filled with probiotics and wholegrain fibre — a combination guaranteed to banish belly bloat. Papaya also has a high water content and contains an enzyme called papain to help promote regularity and support healthy digestion.

  • 1 cup coconut water or filtered water
  • 2 heaped tbsp Greek yoghurt*
  • 1 cup papaya
  • 1 small banana, frozen
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1 tbsp LSA (linseed, sunflower, almond) mix
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon

*Vegans can replace dairy with silken tofu

Place all ingredients in a blender, blend until smooth then serve.
