Why you should forget setting goals this new year

If you’re a beginner, don’t get caught up on setting strict goals for your fitness journey, because they may work against you.

Researchers from Wollongong University and UNSW point out that strict goal setting — such as losing 5kg over an amount of weeks or hitting a certain number of steps per day — can be demotivating when a beginner fails to achieve them.

Instead, they suggest that beginners focus on doing their best, learning techniques and enjoying the experience.
